Foreword

This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part

1.Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting. This document replaces GB 28478-2012 "Safety performance requirements for outdoor leisure furniture - Tables and chairs" and is consistent with GB 28478-2012. In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:

a) The scope has been changed (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the.2012 edition);

b) Deleted the terms and definitions of "parts accessible during use" (see

3.1 of the.2012 edition), "automatic locking mechanism" (see 2012 edition 3.2), "Shear and crush points" (see.2012 edition 3.3), "Commercial outdoor leisure furniture" (see.2012 edition

1 Scope

GB/T 28478-2024 is the Chinese general standard for outdoor tables and chairs. Outdoor furniture fails in ways indoor furniture does not: it is rained on, frozen, baked and blown over, and the joint that was sound in a showroom opens after two seasons. The standard is written around that. It sets the classification by material, the requirements on the materials themselves and on their protective treatment for wood, metal, plastic, rattan and textile, the appearance and workmanship requirements, the dimensional requirements, the strength, durability and stability requirements including the static and cyclic load tests on the seat, the back, the arms and the legs, the drop test and the stability against tipping, the weathering requirements covering resistance to light, water, temperature cycling and corrosion, the requirements on folding and reclining mechanisms and on safety against entrapment, and the limits on harmful substances, together with the test methods, the inspection rules and the marking, packaging, transport and storage. The 2024 edition replaces GB/T 28478-2012. For a maker, an importer or a buyer inspecting a container in China, this is the acceptance text.

This document specifies the technical requirements, inspection rules, marking, use, and use of camping, household and commercial outdoor tables (tables), chairs (stools) for adults. Instructions for use, packaging, transportation and storage, and the corresponding test methods are described. This document applies to quality control during the design, production, installation and sales of outdoor tables and chairs for adults. This document does not apply to the material design/structure or manufacturing process of outdoor tables and chairs, electrical safety, castors, tilt mechanisms and seat height. The durability of the adjustment mechanism does not apply to removable upholstered parts and coverings and permanently fixed furniture.

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 28202 and GB/T 31106 and the following apply to this document.
