GB/T 28090-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering the quarantine identification of false cocklebur, a weed of the Asteraceae intercepted at the border — the classification information and the morphology of the involucre, the paleae and the achene, the field sampling, the apparatus and reagents, the preparation and observation of the sample, the ITS sequencing and the real-time fluorescence PCR, the separation from the similar genera an inspector is most likely to confuse it with, and the result determination. The appendix on the similar genera is the part that does the work, because a single achene is often all an inspector has to decide on. Issued on 30 May 2025, it has been in force since 1 December 2025, replacing GB/T 28090-2011.

This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1: Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 28090-2011 "Identification Method for Quarantine of Xanthium sibiricum". Compared with GB/T 28090-2011, in addition to the structural adjustment In addition to editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
— Changed "Scope" (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the 2011 edition);

3.1 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1.1 Bract phylary
Bracts arising from the outermost or lower part of the inflorescence.
3.1.2 Involucre
It is composed of multiple bracts, forming one or more whorls of structures that wrap around the inflorescence.
3.1.3 Palea
The scale-like bracts on the inflorescence receptacle of the Asteraceae family. Note. The plural is paleae.
3.1.4 Achene
A small, dry fruit with a hard, indehiscent skin containing one seed.
Note. The apex is usually covered with pappus or other appendages and the base is usually connected to the fruiting pedicel.
3.2 Abbreviations
