4.1

Supports are classified according to the type of guidance.

a) Shaft-guided support – a support that moves relatively linearly along a shaft;

b) Guide rail guided support---a support that moves relatively linearly along a guide rail.

4.2

Supports are classified according to the type of rolling elements as follows.

a) Ball bearing – the rolling element is a ball;

b) Roller support – the rolling elements are rollers;

c) Needle roller support --- the rolling element is a needle roller.

4.3

Supports are classified according to whether their rolling elements circulate during operation.

a) Circulating rolling element support – unlimited travel distance;

b) Non-recirculating rolling element support – limited stroke.

Supports are classified according to the load they bear and the direction of their action.

a) A support subjected to a pure radial load;

b) A support that bears pure radial loads while also transmitting torque;

c) Supports that bear combined radial and axial loads.

Supports are classified according to the number of rows of rolling elements.

b) Double-row rolling element support – a support with two rows of rolling elements;

c) Three-ball support – A support with three sets of balls;

d) Four-ball support – A support with four sets of balls;
