1 Scope

China's national standard for jet-air rice whitening machines. It specifies the types and basic parameters, the technical requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules and the marking, packaging, transport and storage of the whitening machines used in rice milling. Whitening is the step that turns brown rice into white rice by abrading away the bran layers and the germ, and it is where the value of a rice mill is made or lost. The grain is fragile: a rice kernel that breaks during milling is worth a fraction of a whole one, and the head rice yield - the proportion emerging unbroken - is the single number a mill is judged on. Whitening is also the step that generates heat, because it works by friction and abrasion, and heat is what cracks the kernel. The jet-air machine addresses exactly that. Air is blown into the whitening chamber through the hollow shaft and out through the roll, and it does three things at once: it cools the rice, it carries the bran away continuously so it does not accumulate and re-abrade the grain, and it reduces the pressure needed in the chamber to achieve a given degree of whiteness. Less pressure and less heat means fewer broken kernels at the same milling degree, which is the whole reason the design exists. So the standard specifies not only the capacity and the power but the properties that determine milling quality: the degree of whiteness achieved and its uniformity, the broken rice rate, the temperature rise of the grain, the bran removal, and the air system that produces all of it - along with the wear parts, the safety and the dust control that any grain machine needs. 3 Terms and definitions
