Scope

GB/T 23947.3-2023 is the English-translated version of 无机化工产品中砷测定的通用方法 第3部分:原子荧光光谱法.

GB/T 23947.3-2023 describes how the arsenic content of inorganic chemical products is measured by atomic fluorescence spectrometry. It is Part 3 of GB/T 23947, whose other published parts cover the silver diethyldithiocarbamate photometric method and the arsenic spot method.

In the method the digested sample is pre-reduced with thiourea and ascorbic acid to turn pentavalent arsenic into trivalent arsenic, potassium borohydride then generates arsine, argon carries it into a quartz atomiser, and the atomic fluorescence excited by the arsenic lamp is proportional to the arsenic concentration.

The general provisions fix the grade of reagents and water against GB/T 6682-2008 and the preparation of standard solutions against HG/T 3696.2 and HG/T 3696.3. It was issued on 27 November 2023 and has applied since 1 June 2024.

Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" Drafting.

This document is Part 3 of GB/T 23947 "General Method for Determination of Arsenic in Inorganic Chemical Products". GB/T 23947 has been released. The following sections are included.

---Part 1. Silver diethyldithiocarbamate photometry;

---Part 2. Arsenic spot method;

---Part 3. Atomic fluorescence spectrometry.

Introduction

GB/T 23947 takes the determination method of arsenic content in inorganic chemical products as the standardization object, and aims to standardize the arsenic content in inorganic chemical products.

Test procedures for arsenic content determination and obtaining accurate and reliable measurement results. GB/T 23947 consists of the following three parts.

---Part 1. Photometric method of silver diethyldithiocarbamate. The purpose is to standardize the use of silver diethyldithiocarbamate as display colorant, arsenic content is measured photometrically at a specific wavelength.

---Part 2. Arsenic spot method. The purpose is to standardize the use of mercuric bromide as chromogenic test paper and the reaction of hydrogen arsine and mercuric bromide to generate specific compounds.

The arsenic content is determined based on the principle of color compounds.

---Part 3. Atomic fluorescence spectrometry. The purpose is to standardize the use of atomic fluorescence spectrometers and use arsenic elements to produce characteristics of atomic fluorescence for arsenic content determination.

With the development of detection methods for arsenic content, the use of atomic fluorescence spectrometry to measure arsenic content in inorganic chemical products not only reduces toxic substances harm the health of testing personnel, while improving the accuracy and reliability of trace arsenic determination results in inorganic chemical products. The document is a supplement to the current general method for the determination of arsenic in inorganic chemical products.

Warning: Personnel using this document should have practical experience in regular laboratory work. This document does not identify all possible security issues.

Users are responsible for taking appropriate safety and health measures and ensuring compliance with the conditions stipulated in relevant national regulations.

3 Terms and definitions

There are no terms or definitions to be defined in this document.

4 Principles

After the sample is digested, thiourea-ascorbic acid is added to pre-reduce pentavalent arsenic to trivalent arsenic, and then potassium borohydride is added to further reduce trivalent arsenic.

Arsenic hydrogen is generated by step reduction, and the argon gas is loaded into the quartz atomizer and decomposed into atomic arsenic. Atoms are produced under the excitation of the emitted light of the arsenic element lamp.

Fluorescence, its fluorescence intensity is proportional to the arsenic concentration in the measured solution under fixed conditions, and the arsenic content in the sample can be measured from this.

5 General provisions

The reagents and water used in this document, unless other requirements are noted, refer to analytically pure reagents and secondary grade water specified in GB/T 6682-2008. The impurity standard solutions, preparations and products used in the test shall be in accordance with HG/T 3696.2, unless other requirements are indicated. Preparation as specified in HG/T 3696.3.
