3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Available lead
Lead in the soil that can be absorbed and utilized by plant roots.
Note. This document refers to lead extracted using diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) extractant under the extraction conditions specified in this document.
3.2 Available cadmium
Cadmium in the soil that can be absorbed and utilized by plant roots.
Note. This document refers to cadmium extracted using DTPA extractant under the extraction conditions specified in this document.
4 Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy
4.1 Principle
DTPA complexing agent has a strong ability to react with heavy metals, and can rapidly form water-soluble compounds with lead and cadmium ions in the soil. (Sample)
Lead and cadmium are converted into ground-state atoms at high temperatures. Under the illumination of a specially designed hollow cathode lamp, the gaseous ground-state metal atoms absorb specific wavelengths.
The more ground-state atoms in the optical path that transition to a higher energy level, the greater the absorption of their characteristic radiation energy, and the more closely they interact with the atom.
