1 Scope

GB/T 22790-2023 sets the requirements and test methods for bicycle luggage carriers. A rack is judged by a load rating printed on it, and in China that rating is treated as advice rather than a limit - carriers routinely take a second passenger, a delivery crate or a child seat. What fails is the fastener or the weld, usually while the bicycle is moving, and the rider goes over with it. The standard therefore concentrates on the fastenings and on dynamic rather than static loading. It sets the maximum load capacity and then the requirements and test methods: accuracy of construction, crack inspection, sharp edges, the reliability of the safety-related fasteners, protrusions, the rear carrier when it carries lighting, and the dynamic load tests with their loading method. It replaces GB/T 22790-2008 and took effect on 1 December 2023.

This document specifies non-bicycle-specific luggage racks for installation (with or without tools) and bicycle racks for installation on fully assembled bicycles: The safety and performance requirements for the design and test of luggage racks specially equipped for vehicles are given, and the instructions for use and maintenance guidelines for such luggage racks are given: This document applies to luggage racks mounted on and near the wheels of bicycles: This document does not apply to permanently fixed luggage racks and portable luggage racks (for example, non-permanently fixed handlebar bags and baskets): This document does not cover toy racks intended for installation on children's bicycles within the scope of GB 14746:
