This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part
1.Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents". Drafting. This document replaces GB/T 22496-2008 "Corn Grits". Compared with GB/T 22496-2008, the only changes are structural adjustments and editorial modifications. In addition, the main technological changes are as follows: --Terminology and definitions have been changed (see Chapter 3, Chapter 3 of the.2008 edition); --The classification has been changed (see Chapter 4, Chapter 4 of the.2008 edition); --Added raw material requirements (see Chapter 5); --The quality indicator requirements have been changed (see Table 1, Table 1 in the.2008 version). --The "Hygiene Requirements" and "Authenticity Requirements" have been removed (see sections

1 Scope
GB/T 22496-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering maize grits as a graded product - the particle size and its uniformity, the fat content that governs how long they keep before going rancid, the moisture, the impurities and the mycotoxin limits. It replaces GB/T 22496-2008, under the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration. In force from 1 May 2026. This document defines the terminology and definitions for corn grits, and specifies its classification, raw material requirements, quality requirements, inspection rules, labeling, and other related requirements. The requirements for packaging, storage, and transportation are described, along with the corresponding inspection methods. This document applies to degermed corn grits that are consumed or used as food ingredients.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Granular products made from corn through a series of processes including impurity removal, degerming, crushing and screening.
3.2 Granularity The size of the corn grits particles.
Note. The mass fraction of corn grits that pass through and remain on the specified sieve is expressed as the mass fraction of corn grits.
4.Classification Corn grits are classified into three categories based on their particle size. large corn grits, medium corn grits, and small corn grits.
