Scope
GB/T 15677-2023 is the English-translated version of 金属镧及镧粉.
GB/T 15677-2023 is the Chinese national standard for lanthanum metal and lanthanum powder, covering their classification, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transport, storage and accompanying documents.
It applies to lanthanum metal made by molten salt electrolysis and by thermal reduction, used as an additive or alloying element in special steels, non-ferrous metals, hydrogen storage materials and magnetic materials and as a reducing agent for other rare earth metals.
It also applies to lanthanum powder made from that metal by hydrogenation-dehydrogenation, for electronic functional materials, alloy replacement agents, 3D printing powders and additives.
It defines particle size and apparent density, and cites GB/T 1479.1, GB/T 8170, GB/T 12690, GB/T 14635, GB/T 17803, GB/T 18115.1, GB 39176 and YS/T 617.6. It replaces GB/T 15677-2010, was issued on 6 August 2023 and has applied since 1 March 2024.

Foreword
This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 15677-2010 "Metal Lanthanum". Compared with GB/T 15677-2010, except for structural adjustments and editorial changes in addition, the main technical changes are as follows:
a) Metal lanthanum produced by thermal reduction method has been added to the scope (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the 2010 edition);
b) Added classification (see Chapter 4);
c) Added the metal lanthanum brand La-4N and its corresponding assessment indicators (see Table 1, Table 1 of the 2010 version);
d) The assessment indicators of O, W, Mo and Ti in metal lanthanum grades La-4N, La-3N and La-2N5 have been added (see Table 1, 2010 version Table 1);
e) The assessment index of non-rare earth impurity S in the metal lanthanum brand La-2N5 has been changed from 0.02% to 0.01% (see Table 1, 2010 version of Table 1);
f) Added the chemical composition and physical properties test methods of metallic lanthanum powder (see 6.1, 6.2, Chapter 3 of the 2010 edition);
g) Added the packaging method of metallic lanthanum powder (see 7.4.2, 6.1 of the 2010 edition);
h) The metal lanthanum brand La-2N and its corresponding assessment indicators are deleted (see 3.1 of the 2010 version).
1 Scope
This document specifies the classification, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation, storage and accompanying files.
This document applies to lanthanum metal produced by molten salt electrolysis and thermal reduction methods. It is mainly used as special steels, non-ferrous metals, hydrogen storage materials, and magnets. It is an important additive or alloying element for reactive materials, and can also be used as a reducing agent for the preparation of other rare earth metals.
This document also applies to metal lanthanum powder produced by hydrogenation-dehydrogenation method using lanthanum metal as raw material, which is mainly used for functions in the electronics industry. Materials, alloy replacement agents, other metal reducing agents, 3D printing powders, and additives for non-ferrous metals, special alloys and special steels, etc.
