Foreword

This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part

1.Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting. This document replaces GB/T 15170-2007 "Thin steel round cans for packaging container industry". In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:

a) The category of round cans has been added to the classification based on appearance (see

4.1 and Table 1,

b) Added classification according to the hazard level of contents (see 4.2);

c) Added some specifications for Class 5 and Class 6 round cans and the specifications for Class 7 round cans (see Tables 4 to 6);

h) The requirements and test methods for hydraulic strength have been changed (see 7.4.2, 8.5, and 5.2.2,

1 Scope

GB/T 15170-2025 is the Chinese national standard on packaging containers - pails of sheet for industry, in the field of packaging and distribution of goods. The /T suffix marks it as a recommended standard: it is not compulsory by itself, but it becomes binding as soon as a contract, a tender or a customer specification calls it up - which in practice is how most foreign buyers meet it. It was issued on 30 June 2025 by the State Administration for Market Regulation; Standardization Administration of China, and has been in force since 1 January 2026. This document provides the classification of industrial thin steel plate round tanks (hereinafter referred to as "round tanks"), specifies the structural dimensions, materials and accessories, technical requirements, Requirements, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation and storage, and describes the test methods. This document applies to the design, manufacture and inspection of round tanks with a capacity of (0.1~16)L made of thin steel plates as the main material.
