Scope
GB/T 14812-2026 is the English-translated version of 热管传热性能试验方法.
GB/T 14812-2026 is a test method for measuring how well heat pipes transfer heat. It describes the specimens and how to prepare them, the test apparatus and instruments, the environmental conditions for testing, the test procedure itself, and the processing of experimental data.
The main chapters also cover the arrangement of temperature sensing elements on the specimen. It applies to heat transfer performance testing of gravity heat pipes, pulsating heat pipes, tubular heat pipes with capillary wicks, vapor chamber heat pipes and loop heat pipes.
Its normative reference is GB/T 14811. Issued on 2 July 2026 and applicable from 1 November 2026, it replaces GB/T 14812-2008.

Foreword
This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents".
This document replaces GB/T 14812-2008 "Test Methods for Heat Transfer Performance of Heat Pipes". Compared with GB/T 14812-2008, except for structural adjustments... Aside from the integration and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
a) The scope of application has been changed, and the types of heat pipes have been added (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the 2008 edition);
b) A schematic diagram of the temperature sensing element arrangement for the specimen has been added, clarifying the number and location of the temperature sensing elements, and the selection of pulsating heat pipe specimens has been added.
Number of temperature measurement points and description of specimen condition (see 4.2);
c) The illuminance requirements in the environmental testing conditions have been removed (see Chapter 6 of the 2008 edition);
d) The heating method for the evaporator (zones, sections) has been changed (see 7.2, 2008 version 7.2);
e) Added testing and calculation methods for operating temperature, anti-gravity heat transfer flux, heat transfer temperature difference, and critical heat flux density (see 7.5). 7.8, 7.9, 7.11, 8.1, 8.4, 8.5, 8.9).
1 Scope
This document describes the testing methods for heat pipe heat transfer performance, including the specimen and its preparation, test apparatus and instruments, test environmental conditions, and test procedures. And experimental data processing.
This document applies to the heat transfer performance testing of gravity heat pipes, pulsating heat pipes, tubular heat pipes with capillary wicks, vapor chamber heat pipes, and loop heat pipes.
2 Normative references
The contents of the following documents, through normative references within the text, constitute essential provisions of this document. Dated citations are not included.

3 Terms and Definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 14811 apply to this document.
4 Specimens and their preparation
4.1 Selection of Specimens
For testing the heat transfer performance of heat pipes, the requirements for selecting test specimens are as follows.
a) For gravity heat pipes, pulsating heat pipes, tubular heat pipes with capillary wicks, and vapor chamber heat pipes, the specimen should be designed in the same way as the type of heat pipe.
Heat pipes with the same structure and dimensions, using the same materials, working fluid, and manufacturing process;
b) For loop heat pipes, the test specimen should use the same evaporator structure and dimensions, and the same liquid receiver structure and dimensions as that type of loop heat pipe.
The same condenser structure and dimensions, the same gas and liquid pipe cross-sectional dimensions, the same materials, the same working fluid, and the same manufacturing process are used.
The lengths of heat pipes, gas pipes, and liquid pipes should be determined according to the product's testing requirements;
4.2.1 General Requirements
The arrangement of temperature sensing elements should follow the requirements below.
a) The temperature sensing element, such as a thermocouple or resistance temperature detector (RTD), must be calibrated and qualified, and its error should not exceed a certain limit within the test temperature range.
For temperatures greater than 0.2°C, the size of the temperature sensing element should be adapted to the measuring points on the test specimen.
b) The temperature sensing element is in close contact with the outer surface of the housing by pasting or embedding. Before the temperature sensing element leads are led out, a period of isothermal contact should be maintained.
Section. When fixing the temperature sensing element in the evaporator (zone, section), the temperature sensing element should be isolated from the simulated heat source, and the distance between the two should be [distance missing]. 3mm~5mm.
c) Arrange an appropriate number of temperature measuring points on the outer surface of the insulation material to estimate the heat loss.
