Scope
GB/T 13666-2013 is the English-translated version of 图书用品设备产品型号编制方法.
GB/T 13666-2013 specifies how product type designations are formed for library and information equipment, and applies to the designation of such products.
Each designation is built from a category code and a group code taken from the Hanyu Pinyin initials of the Chinese names, a feature code and a numeric parameter code, with 0 used where a group, feature or parameter does not apply.
Table 1 assigns the codes for 17 product categories - bookshelves and compact shelving, periodical and newspaper racks, documents and archive cabinets, library ladders, book trolleys, lifts and conveyors, retrieval and security detection systems, bookcases, catalogue cabinets, reading tables, chairs and stools, lending desks, audiovisual tables and racks, and new book display racks - and Annex A gives worked examples.
It replaces GB/T 13666-1992: the designation method has been revised, codes have been added for triangular bookshelves, intelligent compact shelving, antimagnetic and optical disc cabinets, retrieval systems, audiovisual furniture and display racks, and the groups, features and parameters of newspaper racks and bookcases have been changed.

Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 13666-1992, Type organization method of product for books and information articles. Compared with GB/T 13666-1992, the main technical changes are as follows:
- the method of designation has been modified (see Clause 2; Clause 2 of the 2003 edition);
- type designation methods have been added for triangular bookshelves, intelligent compact shelving, antimagnetic cabinets, optical disc cabinets, book retrieval systems, audiovisual racks, audiovisual tables and new book display racks (see 2.6);
- the groups, features and parameters of newspaper racks and bookcases have been modified (see 2.6; 2.6 of the 2003 edition).
