Scope
GB/T 13511.4-2025 is the English-translated version of 配装眼镜 第4部分:多焦和渐变焦老视成镜.
Part 4 of China's series on assembled spectacles, covering multifocal and progressive power ready-made near-vision spectacles - the presbyopic glasses sold finished rather than made to an individual prescription. It specifies the requirements, the marking, labelling and packaging of multifocal and progressive power near-vision ready-made spectacles, and describes the corresponding test methods. Ready-made presbyopic glasses are a large market and a regulatory problem, because they are bought without an eye examination and worn by people who may have an uncorrected refractive error, an unequal prescription between the two eyes, or an eye condition they do not know about. A pair made to a single average prescription and a single interpupillary distance fits some of those people and not others, and the ones it does not fit get eye strain and headache - and, more seriously, a reason not to have their eyes examined. Where the ready-made glasses are multifocal or progressive, all of that is compounded, because the wearer now also has to find the reading zone with eyes that were never measured for it. The standard is what bounds the problem: it sets the optical requirements at the reference points and the addition, the tolerances on power and on the difference between the two lenses, the prismatic effect and the interpupillary distance and its tolerance, the position and geometry of the near zone, the surface quality and permitted defects, and the mechanical requirements of the finished pair. And it sets the marking and labelling - which on a product sold without professional advice is the only thing that tells the buyer what they are getting and when they should see an optometrist instead. Issued on 28 February 2025 and in force since 1 March 2026.

Foreword
Fitted glasses include custom-made glasses and presbyopia glasses, which are suitable for vision correction of people with various refractive errors or presbyopia. Personalized glasses can meet people's needs in different occasions. GB/T 13511 "Fitting glasses" aims to standardize the fitting of glasses. The production and use of glasses, improving the quality and safety of fitted glasses, and protecting consumers' vision health. GB/T 13511, as a recommended national standard supporting the mandatory national standards, consists of four parts. -- Part
1.Monofocal and multifocal prescription glasses. The purpose is to ensure the quality and safety of monofocal and multifocal prescription glasses and to improve Processing level. -- Part
2.Progressive focus custom glasses. The purpose is to ensure the quality and safety of progressive focus custom glasses and improve the processing level. --Part
3.Single-vision presbyopia spectacles. The purpose is to improve the product quality of single-vision presbyopia spectacles and protect the visual health of the elderly. and safe to use. -- Part
4.Multifocal and progressive presbyopia lenses. The purpose is to improve the product quality of multifocal and progressive presbyopia lenses and ensure Visual health and safety of use for the elderly. Fitting glasses Part

3.1 near-vision spectacles Mass-produced glasses are mainly used for near-sighted use.
Note. They are usually divided into single-focus presbyopia lenses, multifocal presbyopia lenses and progressive focus presbyopia lenses.
3.2 Multifocal near-vision spectacles A pair of identical multifocal lenses assembled into a pair of presbyopia glasses, in which the near zone refractive power is a positive spherical refractive power.
3.3 Power-variation near-vision spectacles A pair of identical progressive focus lenses assembled into a pair of presbyopia glasses, in which the change in vertex power is the positive spherical diopter.
3.4 near reference point horizontal distance The distance between the near reference points of the two lenses of a multifocal presbyopic lens in a direction parallel to the line connecting the geometric centers of the two lens circles.
