Foreword
This document was drafted in accordance with the requirements of GB/T 1.1-
2020 "Directives for standardization - Part 1.Rules for the structure and drafting
of standardizing documents".
This document replaces GB/T 13203-2014 "Test methods for verifying
capabilities of motorcycles tyres". Compared with GB/T 13203-2014, the main
technical changes are as follows.
- ADD and IMPROVE the high-speed test condition parameters of motorcycle
tyres, which have a maximum speed of more than 240 km/h (see Table 2
and Table 3; Table 2 and Table 3 of the 2014 edition). Correspondingly ADD
the instructions for setting conditions for high-speed performance tests for
tyres, which have marked or designated speed grades, by the tyre
manufacturer, in this type of tyre (see Appendix E.2; Appendix E.2 of the
2014 edition);
- ADD the test condition parameters of the speed grade code K, in the
applicable scope of the high-speed performance test method (see Table 4;
Table 4 of the 2014 Edition).
This document uses the redrafting method, to modify and adopt ISO
10231.2003 "Motorcycle tyres - Test methods for verifying tyre capabilities".
Compared with ISO 10231.2003, this document has many adjustments in
structure. Appendix A lists the comparison of the article number, between this
document and ISO 10231.2003.
Compared with ISO 10231.2003, there are technical differences between this
document. The terms of these differences have been marked by a vertical
single line (|), on the outer margin of the document. Appendix B gives a list of
the corresponding technical differences and their reasons.
This document has also made the following editorial changes.
- CHANGE the standard name to "Test methods for verifying capabilities of
motorcycles tyres";
- MODIFY the description of the content of the test steps in E.1;
- DELETE the references of ISO 10231.2003.

method" has been released as follows. GB/T 13204-1991), GB/T 13205-
1991 "Endurance test for motorcycle tyres (Drum method)";

1 Scope
This document specifies terms and definitions, test equipment and accuracy,
test methods, judgment rules and test reports, for the performance test of
motorcycles tyres. This document includes the strength performance test
method, durability test method, high speed performance test method,
centrifugal swelling test method, of motorcycle tyres.
2 Normative references
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Standard
through reference in this Standard. For the dated documents, only the versions
with the dates indicated are applicable to this document; for the undated
documents, only the latest version (including all the amendments) is applicable
to this standard.

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions, as defined in GB/T 6326, as well as the following
terms and definitions, apply to this document.
The maximum load rating of the tyre, at the highest speed.
4 Test equipment and accuracy
For the tyre centrifugal swelling test, when measuring the vertical part of the
inner flange of the rim, directly above the bead seat and the bead seat fillet,
THEN, the test shaft and rim shall be controlled, to ensure that the radial
deviation is less than +/-0.5 mm AND the lateral deviation is less than +/-0.5 mm.
5 Test method
Start the combination to accelerate uninterruptedly; it shall be able to
reach the maximum speed capability of the tyre, within 5 minutes.
The rotation of the tyre can EITHER be driven by a motor, which acts on the
test shaft, OR driven by pressing the tyre on the test drum (see 4.1).
6 Judgment rules
When the tyre is running at maximum speed, its profile shall not exceed the
closed curve, which is defined in Figure C.1, as relative to the tyre axis (that is,
the XX and YY axes of the curve shall coincide with the axis of the plotted tyre
profile).
