3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

Destroy failure

The sample is subjected to impact, resulting in visible cracks, fissures, fractures, penetrations, or breakage.

50% impact failure mass

The drop weight that causes 50% of the specimen to fail at a specified impact height.

50% impact failure height

The drop height that causes 50% of the specimens to fail under a specified drop weight.

The distance from the top of the hammer to the upper surface of the sample.

4 Principles

4.1 Equipment Working Principle

Under specified impact conditions, a suitable drop hammer mass and hammerhead are selected. The hammer body is attracted by an electromagnet and pulled upward to reach the pre-selected height.

Then, the drop hammer is released to impact the sample. When the drop hammer rebounds, the capture device catches the drop hammer and measures the energy required to destroy the plastic sheet.
