Scope

GB/T 10424-2025 is the English-translated version of 烧结金属摩擦材料 抗压强度的测定.

GB/T 10424-2025 is the Chinese national test method for the compressive strength of sintered metal friction materials at room temperature and for their relative compressibility.

The compressive strength is the maximum load a cylindrical specimen withstands in axial compression up to failure divided by the original cross-sectional area, in MPa, while relative compressibility is the axial change in length at failure as a percentage of the original length.

The document covers the principle, the instruments and equipment, the specimens, the test steps, the processing of the test data, the uncertainty and the test report.

It states that the test is generally run at room temperature between 10 °C and 35 °C, and at 23 °C ± 5 °C where temperature requirements are strict. It replaces GB/T 10424-2002, was issued on 1 August 2025 and applies from 1 February 2026.

Foreword

This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1: Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting.

This document replaces GB/T 10424-2002 "Determination of compressive strength of sintered metal friction materials" and is consistent with GB/T 10424-2002.

In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.

--- Added the terms "compressive strength" and "relative compressibility" and their definitions (see Chapter 3);

--- Increased test environment requirements (see Chapter 4);

--- Changed the accuracy requirements of the testing machine (see 5.1, 4.1 of the 2002 edition);

--- Added requirements for extensometers, safety protection devices, and specimen size measuring instruments (see 5.2, 5.4, 5.5);

--- Added requirements for sample preparation and sample quantity (see 6.2, 6.3);

--- Added "Test steps" to clarify the sample preparation, sample measurement, test speed and test requirements (see Chapter 7);

--- Changed the requirements for rounding off of test results (see 8.3, 8.1 of the 2002 edition);

--- Increased uncertainty requirements (see Chapter 9);

--- Changed the requirements for the content of the test report (see Section 10.2, 8.2 of the 2002 edition).

1 Scope

This document specifies the method for determining the room temperature compressive strength and relative compressibility of sintered metal friction materials.

This document is applicable to the determination of room temperature compressive strength and relative compressibility of sintered metal friction materials.

2 Normative references

The contents of the following documents constitute the essential clauses of this document through normative references in this document.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Compressive strength

The maximum compressive stress that a specimen can withstand under axial compression until failure.

Note: The unit is MPa.

3.2 Epsilon0

The axial strain is calculated by dividing the axial change in the original length by the original length when the specimen is subjected to axial compression until failure.

Note: Expressed in percentage (%).

4 Principles

The stress is obtained by dividing the maximum load that a cylindrical specimen can withstand under axial compression until failure by the cross-sectional area of the original specimen. force as compressive strength.

Unless otherwise specified, the test is generally carried out at room temperature within the range of 10°C~35°C. For tests with strict temperature requirements, the test temperature should be 23°C±5°C.
