This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part

Personal protective equipment, also known as labor protection equipment, is the "last line of defense" to protect the lives and safety of hundreds of millions of workers. Wearing and using personal protective equipment is an important means to ensure safe production and emergency management in my country. The standard for the provision of protective equipment is to combine Article 45 of the "Safety Production Law of the People's Republic of China" and the "Management Standards for Labor Protection Articles of Employers" GB 39800 "Specifications for the Provision of Personal Protective Equipment" aims to establish the provisions and management of personal protective equipment for employers. The management requirements are composed of the following 12 parts.

1.General. The purpose is to establish the overall requirements for the provision of personal protective equipment by employers, including the principles of provision, Process, identification and assessment of workplace hazards, selection, disposal and replacement of personal protective equipment, training and use, etc.

2.Petroleum, chemical industry, natural gas. The purpose is to establish the requirements for personal protective equipment for employers in the petroleum, chemical industry and natural gas industries. Equipment requirements, identification and assessment of hazards, etc.

3.Metallurgy and nonferrous metals. The purpose is to establish the requirements for individual protective equipment of employers in the metallurgical and nonferrous metals industries, the causes of hazards Identification and evaluation of factors, etc.

4.Non-coal mines. The purpose is to establish the requirements for individual protective equipment and hazard factors for employers in the non-coal mining industry. identification and evaluation, etc.

5.Building materials. The purpose is to establish the requirements for individual protective equipment for employers in the building materials industry, the identification and Evaluation, etc.

1 Scope

Part 10 of China's mandatory series on the provision of personal protective equipment, covering the machinery industry - the foundries, forges, machine shops, fabrication and welding shops, heat treatment plants, surface finishing lines and assembly halls that between them employ an enormous share of the country's industrial workforce. This document specifies the overall requirements for the provision of personal protective equipment by employers in the machinery industry, the identification and assessment of the hazard factors, and the requirements for the equipment itself. It is applied together with the general requirements of Part 1. What an industry part adds to the general part is specificity, and in machinery the range of hazards within a single works is unusually wide. The casting and forging shops present molten metal, radiant heat and heavy manual handling; welding presents the arc, the fume and the hot spatter; machining presents flying chips, entanglement in rotating parts and prolonged contact with cutting fluid; grinding and abrasive work present particulate and eye injury; surface treatment presents acids, alkalis, solvents and electroplating chemistry; heat treatment presents furnaces and quenching media; and assembly presents noise, vibration and repetitive load. The document takes those in turn, sets out the hazard factors for each type of work and job, and gives the equipment that must be provided against each - head, eye and face, hearing, respiratory, hand, body, foot and fall protection - together with the conditions under which each applies. That last point is the reason a part of this length exists: a rule that told a foundry and a machine shop to provide the same protection would be ignored by both. Issued on 30 June 2025 and in force since 1 July 2026.

This document specifies the overall requirements for personal protective equipment for each employer in the machinery industry, the identification and assessment of hazard factors, and individual Requirements for protective equipment. This document applies to the provision and management of personal protective equipment for employers and their employees in the machinery industry. This document does not apply to the provision and management of personal protective equipment for firefighting by employers in the machinery industry.

The terms and definitions defined in GB 39800.1 apply to this document.

4 General Requirements

The principles, management and procedures for the provision of personal protective equipment shall be implemented in accordance with the provisions of GB 39800.1.

5 Identification and assessment of hazards

Employers should take into account the characteristics of safety production in the machinery industry and follow the requirements of GB 39800.1 to identify the hazards that may be involved in their production processes. Employers can identify and assess hazards based on the job categories listed in Table 1 or the types of work listed in Appendix A. Identify the hazardous factors and conduct a hazard assessment on the identified hazardous factors as the basis for selecting appropriate personal protective equipment.
