Aside from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:

1 Scope

GB 38144-2025 is the Chinese national standard on eye and face protection - emergency shower and eyewash equipment, in the field of environment and health protection, safety. It carries no /T suffix, which in the Chinese system means compliance is mandatory: a product or a practice within its scope has to meet it to be lawfully made, sold or carried out in China. It was issued on 29 August 2025 by the Ministry of Emergency Management, and has been in force since 1 September 2026. Classification: ICS 13.340.99, CCS C73. This document specifies the product classification, technical requirements, labeling, and instructions for use of emergency sprinkler and eyewash equipment, and describes the corresponding requirements. Experimental methods. This document applies to emergency rinsing procedures performed on workers after accidental contact with hazardous chemicals or other dangerous materials in the workplace. Note. Emergency shower and eyewash equipment does not include personal rinsing devices, shower hoses, or other supplementary devices. For details on supplementary devices, please refer to Appendix A.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Emergency Shower In an emergency, it can spray a sufficient amount of flushing fluid to rinse the entire body and maintain the effect for a certain period of time, eliminating or reducing the risk of injury from contact with harmful substances. Equipment that produces adverse symptoms (harmful effects) due to its quality.

3.2 eyewash In an emergency, it can spray a sufficient amount of flushing solution to rinse the eyes and maintain contact for a certain period of time, eliminating or reducing the risk of injury from exposure to harmful substances. Equipment that produces adverse symptoms (harmful effects).

3.3 Eye/face wash In an emergency, it can spray a sufficient amount of flushing solution to rinse the eyes and face and keep it on for a certain period of time to eliminate or reduce the risk of injury from exposure to harmful substances. Equipment that produces adverse symptoms (harmful effects) due to substances.

3.4 The pressure value at the inlet of the emergency equipment when the valve is fully open and flushing fluid is flowing.

3.5 Flushing Fluid The liquid sprayed from emergency sprinklers and eyewash stations is used to rinse off toxic and harmful substances.
