Scope
GB 3609.2-2025 is the English-translated version of 眼面部防护 焊接防护 第2部分:自动变光焊接滤光镜.
GB 3609.2-2025 is Part 2 of GB 3609 Eye and face protection - Welding protection and sets the technical requirements and test methods for automatic welding filters (AWF), whose shade number changes automatically from a light state to a dark state when welding starts; welding spectacles, goggles, face shields and fixed-shade filters are covered by Part 1.
Its clauses cover classification; technical requirements on materials, structure, dimensions, spherical, astigmatic and prismatic power of plano and corrective lenses, recognition of signal lights, transmittance (including the 365 nm to 400 nm band, near-infrared and blue light), variation of luminous transmittance with time, uniformity and angular dependence of transmittance by product class, switching time, holding time, narrow-angle scattering, dark-state shade number and AWF for side viewing; welding and laser protectors used in assembly; the corresponding test methods; marking; and packaging and product information.
Informative Annexes A and B give a guide to the selection of shade numbers and an introduction to automatic welding filters with precautions for testing, and normative Annex C gives the spectral distribution functions.
It replaces the recommended standard GB/T 3609.2-2009 (first published in 1983) as a mandatory standard; the main changes add classification, holding time, time stability and blue-light and near-infrared transmittance, and delete the former clauses on structure, ultraviolet protection, cover plates and surface defects.
It was issued on 29 August 2025 and has been in force since 1 September 2026. Classification: ICS 13.340.99, CCS C73. The document runs to 39 pages, delivered complete in English translation.

Foreword
This document has been drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2020 Directives for standardization - Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of standardizing documents.
This document is Part 2 of GB 3609 Eye and face protection - Welding protection. The following parts of GB 3609 have been published:
- Part 1: Welding protectors;
- Part 2: Automatic welding filter.
This document replaces GB/T 3609.2-2009 Occupational eye and face protection - Welding protection - Part 2: Automatic welding filter. Compared with GB/T 3609.2-2009, apart from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:
- "Classification" has been added (see Clause 4);
- "Structure" (see Clause 4 of the 2009 edition), "Protection against ultraviolet radiation" (see 5.1.5 and 6.5 of the 2009 edition), "Optical properties of cover plates" (see 5.1.9 of the 2009 edition) and "Surface defects" (see 5.2.2 of the 2009 edition) have been deleted;
- "Material quality" has been changed to "Materials", and the corresponding technical content has been changed (see 5.1; 5.2.3.1 of the 2009 edition);
- "Appearance quality" has been changed to "Structure", and corresponding technical content has been added (see 5.2; 5.2.3.2 of the 2009 edition);
- The requirements for the "dark-state shade number" and its test method have been changed (see 5.2.3, 5.15 and 7.10; 5.1.6 of the 2009 edition);
- "Minimum viewing window" has been changed to "Dimensions", and the corresponding technical content has been changed (see 5.3; 5.2.1 of the 2009 edition);
- "Refractive power" has been changed to "Spherical power, astigmatic power and prismatic power (plano lenses)", "Difference in prismatic power (plano lenses)" and "Spherical power and cylindrical power (corrective lenses)" (see 5.4 to 5.6; 5.1.8 of the 2009 edition);
- A requirement for the "recognition of signal lights" has been added (see 5.7);
- The requirements for "transmittance" have been changed, and requirements for transmittance in the 365 nm < lambda <= 400 nm band, near-infrared transmittance and blue-light transmittance, with the corresponding test methods, have been added (see 5.8 and 7.1 to 7.4; 5.1.1 and 6.1 of the 2009 edition);
- A requirement for the "variation of luminous transmittance with time" and its test method have been added (see 5.9 and 7.5);
- The requirements for "uniformity of transmittance" and "angular dependence of transmittance" and their test methods have been changed, and are now specified separately for each product class (see 5.10, 5.11, 7.6 and 7.7; 5.1.2, 5.1.3, 6.2 and 6.3 of the 2009 edition);
- The requirements for "switching time" and its test method have been changed (see 5.12 and 7.8; 5.1.7 and 6.6 of the 2009 edition);
- A requirement for "holding time" and its test method have been added (see 5.13 and 7.9);
- "Diffuse light" has been changed to "Narrow-angle scattering" (see 5.14; 5.1.4 of the 2009 edition);
- Provisions for "AWF for side viewing" have been added (see 5.16);
- "Welder's protective face shields used in assembly" has been changed to "Welding protectors and laser protectors used in assembly" (see Clause 6; 5.2.4 of the 2009 edition);
- A "General" subclause has been added to the test methods, incorporating, in modified form, the content of "Error in measuring transmittance" (see 7.1; 5.1.1.4 of the 2009 edition);
- A method for measuring "luminous transmittance and shade number" has been added, incorporating the calculation formula for luminous transmittance in modified form (see 7.2; 6.1 and Annex A of the 2009 edition);
- The calculation formula for "infrared transmittance" has been changed (see 7.3; Annex A of the 2009 edition);
- "Packaging, marking, storage and transport" has been changed to "Marking", and the corresponding technical content has been changed (see Clause 8; Clause 7 of the 2009 edition).
