This part is Part 17 of GB 30000.

This part has been drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This part replaces GB 20588-2006 Safety rules for classification, precautionary labelling and precautionary statements of chemicals - Corrosive to metals.

This part is consistent in its technical content with the relevant provisions of the United Nations Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), fourth revised edition.

Compared with GB 20588-2006, the main technical changes in this part are as follows:

- the title of the standard has been changed; the English title is "Rules for classification and labelling of chemicals - Part 17: Corrosive to metals";

- the content of the scope in Clause 1 has been modified: "precautionary label" has been changed to "label" and "precautionary statements" has been deleted;

- the lead-in wording of Clause 2 "Normative references" has been modified, and the United Nations Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (fourth revised edition) has been added as a referenced document;

- a lead-in sentence has been added to Clause 3 "Terms and definitions";

- Figure 1 "Decision logic" and the "Guidance" of Clause 5 have become informative Annex A;

- former Clause 7 has been deleted, and Table 3 of former Clause 7, modified in accordance with the GHS (fourth revised edition), has become normative Annex B;

- former Clauses 6, 7 and 8 have been modified and combined into Clause 6 in accordance with the GHS (fourth revised edition); former Table 2, as modified, has become normative Annex C;

- former Clause 8 has been deleted, and the related content on "hazard statements" and "precautionary statements" has become informative Annex D;

- informative Annex E "Label examples" has been added.

This part was proposed by and is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Hazardous Chemicals Management of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 251).

1 Scope

This part of GB 30000 specifies the terms and definitions, classification criteria, decision logic and guidance, and labelling of corrosive to metals.

This part applies to the classification and labelling of corrosive to metals in accordance with the United Nations Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (hereinafter referred to as the GHS).

Table B.1 - Allocation of label elements for corrosive to metals: Category 1: corrosion pictogram; signal word "Warning"; hazard statement "May be corrosive to metals"; transport pictogram: corrosion symbol, class 8.

Remarks: In the Model Regulations: 1) colours of the transport pictogram: symbol (corrosion): black; background: upper half white, lower half black with white border; figure 8: white; 2) the figure 8 in the pictogram denotes Class 8 of GB 6944-2012; 3) the minimum dimensions of the transport pictogram for goods are 100 mm × 100 mm.

Note: Where a substance or mixture is classified as corrosive to metals but is not corrosive to skin and/or eyes, the competent authority may choose to allow the hazard pictogram for corrosive to metals to be omitted from the label of substances or mixtures in their final state packaged for consumer use.

C Annex C (normative) Classification criteria and label elements for corrosive to metals

The categories and label elements for corrosive to metals are given in Table C.1.
