Scope

GB 30000.13-2013 is the English-translated version of 化学品分类和标签规范 第13部分:遇水放出易燃气体的物质和混合物.

GB 30000.13-2013, Part 13 of the Chinese rules for classification and labelling of chemicals, specifies the terms and definitions, classification criteria, decision logic and guidance, and labelling of substances and mixtures which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases, in line with the GHS (fourth revised edition).

Substances are classified on the basis of UN test N.5 into Category 1 (vigorous reaction with a tendency to spontaneous ignition of the gas, or gas evolution of at least 10 L per kg in any one minute), Category 2 (at least 20 L per kg per hour) and Category 3 (at least 1 L per kg per hour); Categories 1 and 2 carry the signal word "Danger" and Category 3 "Warning".

Clause 6 sets the label content: pictograms, signal words, hazard and precautionary statements, product identifier and supplier identification.

Annex A gives the decision logic and the cases in which the procedure need not be applied, and further annexes cover the allocation of label elements, classification criteria with label elements, hazard and precautionary statements and label examples.

Clauses 4 and 6 are mandatory; the rest is recommended. It replaces GB 20587-2006, renaming the standard, dropping precautionary statements from the scope and restructuring the former clauses into the annexes.

It was issued on 10 October 2013 and has been in force since 1 November 2014. Classification: ICS 13.300, CCS A80. The document runs to 16 pages, delivered complete in English translation.
