Scope
GB 20904-2007 is the English-translated version of 水平定向钻机 安全操作规程.
GB 20904-2007 sets out the safety operation rules for horizontal directional drilling machines of the type specified in JB/T 10548, covering general requirements, working conditions, safety preparation before operation, and safe operation during and after work.
Operators must be trained, wear insulating shoes, helmets and insulating gloves, and the machine must be fenced and grounded; drill rods are to be scrapped when surface wear exceeds 15% of wall thickness, a local bend exceeds 5 mm over 500 mm, or a friction weld shows any defect, and the back-reamed hole is sized at 1.2 to 1.5 times the pipe diameter.
The permitted ambient working temperature is -10 °C to +40 °C, and before drilling all underground services within 100 m beyond each end of the route and 300 m either side must be surveyed, verified and marked, together with geological and river-crossing conditions.
During work the rules require stopping the machine on sudden pressure changes or loss of the locating signal, measuring the drill head position every 1 m, and controlling drilling fluid during back reaming; after work the reamer, swivel pins, nozzles and threads are inspected and records kept.
Clauses 3.1, 3.4, 3.12, 3.13 a) to c) and 3.17 are mandatory, the rest recommended. It is the first edition, issued on 26 March 2007 and in force since 1 October 2007.
