Scope

GB 19179-2003 is the English-translated version of 桑蚕原种.

GB 19179-2003 lays down the quality requirements for silkworm (Bombyx mori) parent eggs, the eggs used to produce first-generation hybrid eggs for sericulture.

It applies to commercial parent eggs produced and sold, divided into Chinese-lineage and Japanese-lineage parent eggs, and defines the terms of the trade such as frame-laid eggs, egg circle, rearing plot and lot, diseased moth rate, net yield rate and purity.

Parent eggs are counted by the sheet of 28 egg circles; the quality indicators cover good eggs per moth (at least 350 for Chinese and 300 for Japanese lineage), net yield rate, labelling and certificate, good eggs per sheet, good egg rate, practical hatching rate, diseased egg rate and purity, with inspection to GB/T 19178 and rules for judging a lot conforming, rejected or to be re-finished.

A normative annex sets the controls on the production process, from moth-batch quantitative rearing and pebrine inspection to sex discrimination and the lot-rejection threshold for diseased moths.

Issued on 4 June 2003 and in force since 1 December 2003, it is the first edition. Classification: ICS 65.020.20, CCS B61. The document runs to 6 pages, delivered complete in English translation.

Foreword

The production and sale of silkworm parent eggs have always been under unified national and provincial management, but to date there has been no unified national standard for the quality of silkworm parent eggs. With the development of the market economy and the continual renewal of silkworm varieties, the circulation of silkworm parent eggs between provinces and between countries is becoming increasingly frequent. The absence of a unified quality standard has caused many difficulties in the management of the quality of silkworm parent eggs. It is therefore necessary to establish a unified quality standard for silkworm parent eggs to regulate their quality.

Annex A of this standard is a normative annex.

This standard was proposed by and is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China.
