GB 1903.61-2023 is the English-translated version of 食品安全国家标准 食品营养强化剂 碳酸铜.
GB 1903.61-2023 is the Chinese national food safety standard for copper carbonate used as a food nutrition enhancer. It applies to copper carbonate prepared either from sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate and soluble copper salts, or from cathode (electrolytic) copper, liquid ammonia and carbon dioxide.
The standard gives the chemical name basic copper carbonate, the molecular formula CuCO3·Cu(OH)2 and the relative molecular mass of 221.11.
Its technical requirements cover the sensory properties of Table 1, a green powder, and the physical and chemical indicators of Table 2, which ask for a copper content of at least 55.0% by mass and a chloride content, calculated as Cl, of no more than 0.05%, both checked by the methods of Appendix A. It was issued on 6 September 2023 and has applied since 6 March 2024.
