GB 1903.59-2023 is the Chinese national food safety standard for the food nutrition fortifier chromium chloride. It applies to the substance prepared from chromium trioxide and hydrochloric acid, which react with reduction as raw materials.

The standard fixes the chemical name chromium trichloride hexahydrate, the molecular formula CrCl3-6H2O, the structural formula and the relative molecular mass 266.44, taken from the 2018 international relative atomic masses.

It then sets the technical requirements, beginning with the sensory requirements of Table 1: a green to purple crystal or crystalline powder, whose colour and state are examined under natural light on a clean dry white porcelain plate or in a transparent beaker.

Producers and food control laboratories use it to judge whether a batch may be used as this fortifier. It was issued on 6 September 2023 and has applied since 6 March 2024.
