GB 1886.367-2023 is the Chinese national food safety standard for the food additive 6-methyloctanal. It covers the product obtained from 6-methyloctanol by catalytic oxidation with 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine oxide in a dichloromethane solvent, followed by removal of the solvent and vacuum distillation.

The standard records the molecular formula C9H18O, the structural formula and the relative molecular mass 142.24, taken from the 2018 international relative atomic masses.

It then fixes the technical requirements: the sensory requirements of Table 1, a colourless liquid examined in a colorimetric tube under natural light with a green, fragrant odour judged to GB/T 14454.2, and the physical and chemical indicators of Table 2.
