Foreword

This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for Standardization Work Part

1.Structure and Drafting Rules for Standardization Documents" drafting. This document replaces GB 18434-2001 "Safe Operation Regulations for Oil Tanker Terminals". Compared with GB 18434-2001, except for structural adjustment In addition to editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:

---Changed the scope of application of the standard (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the.2001 edition);

--- Deleted some terms and definitions (see 3.2~3.13, 3.15, 3.16, 3.17, 3.19, 3.21~3.33,

3.35 of the.2001 edition);

---Changed the definitions of oil tanker, dangerous area, bridging, receiving and stripping (see 3.1~3.5, 3.1, 3.14, 3.18,

3.20 of the.2001 edition 3.34);

---Deleted the technical requirements for safety of oil tankers and oil terminals (see Chapter 4 of the.2001 edition);

--- Changed the general requirements for oil tankers (see Chapter 4, Chapter 5 of the.2001 edition);

--- Deleted the general requirements for oil terminals (see Chapter 6 of the.2001 edition);

---Delete the requirement of arrival at Hong Kong (see Chapter 7 of the.2001 edition);

--- Added general requirements for loading and unloading operations, operational requirements for preparation before berthing, loading, unloading, unberthing and emergency stop (see 5.1~ 5.6);

--- Added requirements for other operations such as inerting operations (see Chapter 6);

--- Deleted the general precautions during the berth of the oil tanker (see Chapter 8 of the.2001 edition);

1 Scope

GB 18434-2022 is the Chinese national standard on safety requirements for the operations of oil tankers in port, in the field of services and company organization. It carries no /T suffix, which in the Chinese system means compliance is mandatory: a product or a practice within its scope has to meet it to be lawfully made, sold or carried out in China. It was issued on 29 December 2022 by the State Administration for Market Regulation; Standardization Administration of China, and has been in force since 1 July 2023. Classification: ICS 03.220.40, CCS R09. This document specifies the general safety requirements for oil tankers operating in port, safety requirements for loading and unloading operations, and other related operation requirements. 3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 oil tanker Ships used to carry liquid oil cargoes in bulk (except petrochemicals).

3.2 dangerous areas dangerous areas An area on a tanker or wharf where a flammable gas atmosphere may exist.

3.3 Bridge bonding Use conductive metal components to connect adjacent metal parts together to ensure electrical continuity.
