Scope

GB 1788-1979 is the English-translated version of 2号喷气燃料.

GB 1788-1979 specifies the quality requirements for No. 2 jet fuel (designation RP-2), produced by processing natural crude oil from raw materials and by a process that have passed the State appraisal procedure; additives that improve fuel quality may be used.

Its single table of requirements sets limits for density at 20 °C, distillation range, closed-cup flash point, kinematic viscosity at 20 °C and -40 °C, crystallization point, aromatics, iodine value, acidity, total and mercaptan sulphur, copper and silver strip corrosion, net heat of combustion, combustion properties (smoke point, naphthalene content or luminometer number), existent gum, ash, water-soluble acids or alkalis, mechanical impurities and water, and water reaction, each tied to a GB or SY test method.

Packaging, marking, storage, transport and delivery acceptance follow SY 2000-78, and sampling follows SY 2001-77 with 2.5 L taken for testing and retention. It replaces the ministry standard SY 1006-77, and its Amendment No. 1 of 1988 converts density to kg/m3 and heat of combustion to MJ/kg and sets a copper strip corrosion grade limit of 1.

Issued on 23 November 1979 and in force since 1 July 1980. Classification: ICS 75.160.20, CCS E31. The document runs to 3 pages, delivered complete in English translation.

Foreword

This standard applies to jet fuel produced by processing natural crude oil. The product is manufactured from the raw materials and by the production process used for the trial samples that passed the appraisal procedure prescribed by the State. Its designation code is RP-2.

Additives of various kinds that help to raise or improve the quality of jet fuel may be added to this product, singly or in combination; the amounts and types added are specified separately according to the particular circumstances.

Issued by the State Bureau of Standards; implemented on 1 July 1980. Proposed by the Ministry of Petroleum Industry of the People's Republic of China. Drafted by the Research Institute of Petroleum Processing.

Note: from the date of implementation of this standard, the former ministry standard SY 1006-77 is abolished.
