Scope
GB 16161-2021 is the English-translated version of 中国海区水上助航标志形状显示规定.
GB 16161 fixes the shapes displayed by the aids to navigation in Chinese sea areas - the can, cone, sphere, pillar and spar forms of buoys and the topmarks above them - and what each shape means within the IALA region A system China follows. It is the companion to GB 15359 on light vessels and large buoys: that one covers the large marks, this one the shape language common to all of them, which is what a mariner reads by day when the light is not showing. Issued on 10 August 2021, in force since 1 March 2022, replacing GB 16161-1996. This page is published from the official record of the standard held by the Chinese standards administration: the identification, the dates, the classification and the edition it replaces are taken from there. The clause text, the tables and the numeric limits are not reproduced on this page - they are in the document itself, which is delivered in full in English translation.
