Foreword

This standard is formulated in order to implement the Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China and the Law of the People's Republic of China on Prevention and Control of Radioactive Pollution, to protect the environment, safeguard human health and regulate the technical requirements for the radiation environmental management of radioactive waste from uranium mining and milling.

This standard specifies the technical requirements for the management of all types of radioactive waste involved in uranium mining and milling.

All types of non-radioactive waste involved in uranium mining and milling are managed in accordance with the relevant laws, regulations and technical requirements.

This standard was first issued in 1993. This is the first revision. The main changes in this revision are as follows:

- the title of the standard has been changed to "Technical regulations for radiation environmental management of radioactive wastes from uranium mining and milling";

- "Referenced standards" and "Terms" have been revised and supplemented accordingly: nouns and terms already defined in other standards have been deleted, and the term "concealed works" has been added;

- the clauses and their content have been rearranged in the light of the current state of development of the uranium mining and milling industry and of the latest concepts in radioactive waste management;

- some management clauses have been deleted.

From the date of implementation of this standard, Technical regulations for safety management of radioactive waste from uranium and thorium mining and milling (GB 14585-93) is repealed.

The formulation of this standard was organised by the Department of Radiation Source Safety Supervision and the Department of Laws, Regulations and Standards of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

Main drafting organisations of this standard: Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Engineering and Metallurgy (CNNC), Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and The Fourth Research and Design Engineering Corporation of CNNC.

This standard was approved by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment on 29 May 2024.

This standard is implemented from 1 October 2024.

This standard is interpreted by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
