Scope

YY 1887-2023 is the English-translated version of 医用正压防护服.

YY 1887 is the mandatory Chinese standard for medical positive pressure protective clothing, the fully enclosed suit fed with filtered air at above ambient pressure so that any leak pushes outward rather than drawing contamination in. It is the highest level of personal protection used in healthcare, worn for high-consequence pathogens and in biosafety settings. The document sets the requirements such a suit has to meet and the test methods that verify them, covering the integrity of the enclosure, the air supply and the pressure it maintains, the visibility and mobility the wearer retains, and the procedures for putting it on and taking it off without self-contamination. Being a YY standard without the /T suffix, compliance is compulsory in China. The 2023 edition took effect in July 2025.

This document specifies the structural composition, requirements, testing methods, markings, instructions for use, packaging and storage of medical positive pressure protective clothing. This document is applicable to scenarios such as medical work environments where the risk of exposure to pathogenic microorganism aerosols has been assessed, and is used to filter airborne Medical positive pressure protective clothing that contains microbial particles and blocks droplets, blood and other pollutants. This document does not apply to medical positive pressure protective clothing whose clothing part is reusable. This document does not apply to personal protective equipment in biosafety level 4 laboratories or equivalent risk operating environments. This document does not apply to personal protective equipment in environments such as dust, chemical gases, combustion, explosion, and lack of oxygen.
