YB/T 6479.2-2026 is Part 2 of a series on artificial-intelligence-based metallographic testing systems for steel products, and it deals with grain size. It specifies the basic requirements, data requirements, model requirements, requirements for intelligent grain size rating, and system function requirements for an intelligent grain size testing system. It applies to the development and application of such systems for steel products; intelligent grain size testing of other products may refer to it.

Metallurgical and testing laboratories at steel plants, independent laboratories, and suppliers of imaging and analysis software can use it when building or assessing automated grain size rating. It is a voluntary standard, as the /T in its code indicates. It was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, issued on 15 July 2026 and takes effect on 1 February 2027. It is a new standard.
