This part of the WS/T 404 series gives reference intervals for four common clinical biochemistry tests carried out on serum: C-reactive protein, prealbumin, transferrin and beta-2 microglobulin. Reference intervals are the ranges against which a laboratory result is compared when it is reported and interpreted.

It is used by clinical laboratories, hospitals, in vitro diagnostic manufacturers and physicians who read laboratory reports. The standard is voluntary, as the code carries the /T mark. It was approved by the National Health Commission, issued on 25 May 2026 and takes effect on 1 November 2026. It replaces WS/T 404.9-2018.
