The standard is written for the piston rings of automobile and motorcycle engines, and may also be used for the piston rings of other internal combustion engines and of air compressors working under comparable conditions.
It is an equivalent adoption of ISO 6621/2:1984 and quotes GB 1031, GB 3505, JB 3916, JB 3933 and ZB T12 001. In the Chinese classification scheme it sits under T12.
