3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 19596 and GB 38031 and the following apply.

3.1 thermal management system

system that controls the temperature of the battery by means of cooling, heating, and thermal insulation

3.2 Cooling systems

3.2.1 air cooling system

system that uses air as a heat transfer medium to cool the battery

Note: Air cooling systems may be classified into active air cooling system and passive air cooling system by the cooling mode.

3.2.2 liquid cooling system

system that uses coolant, e.g., a mixture of ethylene glycol and water, as the heat transfer medium to cool the battery

3.2.3 direct cooling system

system that uses a refrigerant as a heat transfer medium to cool the battery

3.3 heating system

system that uses a heating device to heat the battery

3.3.1 electric heating film

heating device consisting of a heating element, an insulating coating, a lead-out wire and a plug/receptacle connector, etc.

3.3.2 positive temperature coefficient heating

heating device consisting of a heat-sensitive heat-generating element producing PTC effect, and a package, etc.

3.4 thermal insulation system

system that uses a thermal insulation material for thermal insulation/isolation of the battery

3.5 battery control unit (BCU)

electronic device that controls, manages, tests, or calculates electrical and thermal related parameters of the battery system and provides communication between the battery system and other vehicle controllers

3.6 maximum temperature

highest temperature of cells in the battery pack measured by the temperature sensor

3.7 minimum temperature

lowest temperature of cells in the battery pack measured by the temperature sensor

3.8 temperature difference

difference between the highest and lowest cell temperatures collected at the same time in the battery pack […]
