1 Scope

This standard specifies a method for evaluating the moisturization efficacy of cosmetics

- Capacitance method to determine the moisture content of the stratum corneum of the

skin.

This standard is applicable to the determination of moisturization efficacy of skin care

creams, lotions, cosmetic products. Other types of cosmetics, which are claimed having

moisturization efficacy, can refer to this standard for evaluation.

2 Normative references

The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For the dated

documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable to this document;

for the undated documents, only the latest version (including all the amendments) is

applicable to this standard.

Hygienic specifications for cosmetics

3 Basic principles

3.1 Cosmetics to be tested shall be products that have passed the physical, chemical,

hygienic tests. Before the human test, it shall complete the necessary toxicological tests,

in accordance with the "Hygienic specifications for cosmetics", AND issue a written

certificate. The sample, which fails in the toxicological tests, will not be subject to the

human test.

3.3 The guidelines for the evaluation of moisturization efficacy of cosmetics are

applicable to the measurement of products before and after use.

4 Principles

Using the capacitance method to measure the moisture content of the human skin's

stratum corneum, is based on the principle that, the dielectric constants of water and

other substances are significantly different.

5 Test conditions and volunteer requirements

5.1 Environmental conditions for test

Test environment's temperature. 20 °C ~ 22 °C; humidity. 40% ~ 60%; perform real-

time dynamic monitoring.

5.2 Number of volunteers

Effective volunteers 24 ~ 30 people.

5.3 Volunteer conditions

5.3.1 Age between 18 ~ 65 years old (except pregnant or lactating women).
5.3.4 Those who have no active allergic diseases.
5.3.5 Those who have no serious allergic constitution.
5.3.6 Those who have not taken hormone drugs and immunosuppressants, in the past

one month.

5.3.7 Those who have not participated in other clinical tests, at the test site at present or

in the last three months.

6 Reagents and materials

6.1 Dry face tissue.

6.3 Syringes or pipettes.

7 Instruments

7.1 Capacitance method skin moisture meter, such as Corneometer or equivalent.

8 Measurement steps

8.1 Preparation before the test

It shall not use any products (cosmetics or external medicines), at the test site, 2 ~ 3

days before the test; it shall not be in contact with water, for 1 ~ 3 hours. Before the test,

subjects need to clean their hands and forearms uniformly. The cleaning method is to

wipe it clean, by dry facial tissue.

8.2 Determination

The product's coating area and blank control area shall be randomly distributed, around

the left and right arm's marking area, to ensure that the locations of all products and

blank areas are statistically balanced.

9 Result calculation

Descriptive statistics are performed on the measured values of each test area, including

quantity, mean, standard deviation, minimum, median, maximum values, etc.

10 Result judgment

Positive result. Before and after the use of the product, if there is a significant difference

in the moisture content of the stratum corneum in the test area, it indicates that the test

sample has a moisturization efficacy.

11 Test report

The test report shall include.
