Scope

QB/T 2182-2023 is the English-translated version of 自行车 打气筒.

QB/T 2182-2023 is the Chinese light industry standard for bicycle air pumps - the floor pumps (with or without an air reservoir), hand pumps (with or without a hose) and horizontal and vertical foot pumps used to inflate the pneumatic tyres of bicycles by human power.

It classifies the pumps and their pump heads (Dunlop, Schrader, Presta and universal types), sets out a model designation system (type code, barrel diameter, pressure gauge and reservoir features, design number), and lays down general rules on firm assembly, leak-free connections, safety and pressure regulating valves, handle clearance and anti-slip foot pedals.

It then specifies requirements and test methods for drop impact, assembly and static load strength, piston rod bending, valve working pressure, pressure resistance, durability, non-return sealing, stability, surface coating, appearance and marking, together with inspection rules and packaging, transportation and storage.

It applies to the design, production, inspection and sale of bicycle pumps, replaces QB/T 2182-1995 and has been in force since 1 November 2023.

5.2 The parts of the pump that may come into contact with the human body shall be free from sharp edges and burrs.

5.3 There shall be no air leakage at the connections between the body and the air hose, between the air hose and the pump head or valve adapter, and between the pump head or valve adapter and the matching bicycle tyre valve.

5.4 For hand pumps with a detachable air hose, the air hose stored in the body fitted with an anti-drop device shall not fall out under riding vibration.

5.5 Pumps with a pressure gauge shall show no air leakage or the like when pressure is applied up to the maximum indicated value of the pressure gauge.

5.6 Pumps with an air reservoir shall be fitted with a safety valve or pressure regulating valve capable of controlling the pressure of the air reservoir. After it stops operating, the safety valve or pressure regulating valve shall be able to return to its initial state.

5.7 For floor pumps with a synthetic resin handle and a metal piston rod, the upper end of the metal piston rod shall be firmly covered with a metal pad of area greater than 3 cm2 or with a synthetic resin cap with a top thickness greater than 2 mm.

5.8 For floor pumps with a metal or wooden handle, the protruding part above the handle shall not be higher than the top of the piston rod by 1 mm.

5.9 When a floor pump is in its maximum compressed state, the minimum distance h between the underside of the handle and the upper end of the cylinder shall be greater than 30 mm, as shown in Figure 9 (a) metal pump; b) synthetic resin pump).

5.10 The ground-contact parts and foot pedal of foot pumps shall have an anti-slip structure, and a stroke-limiting device for the piston rod shall be fitted.
