JB/T 8459-2011 is the English-translated version of 避雷器产品型号编制方法.

JB/T 8459-2011 is a recommended Chinese machinery industry standard on the type designation of surge arrester products. It specifies the nomenclature of the models given to arresters, to their derived products and to ancillary products, how such a designation is composed and the method of drawing it up.

JB/T 8459-2011 was issued by MIIT on 20 December 2011 and has been in force since 1 April 2012.

It replaces the earlier edition JB/T 8459-2006, JB/T 8459-1996.

2 Scope

This standard is a recommended Chinese machinery industry standard on the type designation of surge arrester products. It specifies the nomenclature of the models given to arresters, to their derived products and to ancillary products, how such a designation is composed and the method of drawing it up. It applies to arresters used in AC systems and in DC systems, to their derived products, to ancillary products and to the models of other products. GB/T 2900.12, GB 11032-2010 and GB/T 22389-2008 are quoted.
