1 Scope

This standard specifies the varieties, sizes, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking and packaging of thin-walled metal pipes and fittings for sprinkling irrigation.

It applies to galvanized thin-walled steel pipe and thin-walled aluminium and aluminium alloy pipe for sprinkling irrigation, and to the various fittings that go with them.

This standard is a revision of JB/T 7869.2-95 (formerly GB 5895-86), JB/T 7870-95 (formerly GB 5896-86) and JB/T 7869.1-95 (formerly GB 5897-86), the three standards being combined into one. The content of those standards that still applied was retained, and the following main changes were made: the requirements for resistance to water pressure and the corresponding test methods were adjusted; a method for calculating friction head loss was added; the inspection rules were revised; Annex C of JB/T 7869.2-95, "Test report and forms", was deleted; technical requirements that are for the manufacturer to lay down were removed; and the layout and wording were brought into line with GB/T 1.1-1993. Annex A and Annex B are normative.

3 Varieties and sizes

3.1 Classes of thin-walled metal pipe

Thin-walled metal pipes are divided into: galvanized thin-walled steel pipe, nominal pressure 1 000 kPa; and thin-walled aluminium (aluminium alloy) pipe, nominal pressure 800 kPa.

3.2 Sizes and permissible deviations of thin-walled metal pipe

The sizes of thin-walled metal pipe and their permissible deviations shall comply with Table 1. Nominal outside diameters run from 32 mm to 160 mm; the permissible deviation on outside diameter is ±1 % of D for galvanized thin-walled steel pipe, and the permissible deviation on wall thickness is +12 % to -15 % of S.

3.3 Sizes of fittings

The size of a fitting is designated by the nominal outside diameter of the thin-walled metal pipe it fits; a reducer is designated by the nominal outside diameter of the pipe fitting its larger end. Fitting sizes shall comply with Table 2.
