The metallographic testing of cast brass is dealt with by JB/T 5108-2018, a recommended standard of the Chinese mechanical and machinery industry. It covers the cutting of cast brass specimens and their preparation, and then the metallographic examination itself. The standard also fixes how the alpha phase is classified and rated and how the grain size is classified and rated, and what the test report is to contain. It replaces the earlier edition JB/T 5108-1991 and is filed under J31 in the Chinese classification and 77.120.30 in the international one.
