Centrifugal refrigerant compressors are the object of JB/T 12843-2016, a mechanical industry standard filed under number 55150-2016.

It fixes the terms and definitions, the types and basic parameters, the requirements, the tests, the inspection rules and the provisions on marking, packaging, transportation and storage for centrifugal refrigerant compressors and for centrifugal refrigerant compressor units.

Requirements are split into general, safety and performance requirements, and inspection is organised as exit-factory, sampling and type inspection. The standard applies to compressors and units for air conditioning purposes; those for other purposes may refer to it.

Normative and informative appendices set out measuring-point layouts, rectifier requirements and several refrigeration and heating capacity test methods. It was issued on 5 April 2016, took effect on 1 September 2016 and was published for the first time.

3 Terms and definitions

The terms and definitions as defined in JB/T 7249, as well as the following terms and definitions, apply to this document.

3.1 Centrifugal refrigerant compressor

A compressor that relies on the impeller to do work on the refrigerant vapor to increase the pressure and velocity of the refrigerant vapor, then converts the kinetic energy into pressure energy in the diffuser, so that the refrigerant vapor flows radially through the impeller.

3.2 Centrifugal refrigerant compressor unit

A unit assembled from a centrifugal refrigerant compressor, a prime mover and other accessories, used to compress refrigerant vapor.

3.3 Surging

An instability phenomenon that occurs during the operation of a compressor (unit), characterized by large fluctuations in the refrigerant vapor flow rate over time, accompanied by strong vibrations and noise.

3.4 Choking

An instability phenomenon that occurs during the operation of a compressor (unit), characterized by gas dynamic blockage, when the refrigerant vapor flow rate no longer increases with the action of the regulating mechanism.

4 Type and basic parameters

4.1 Type

4.1.1 According to the structure, it is divided into open type and semi-closed type.

4.1.2 According to the number of stages, it is divided into single stage, double stage, multi-stage.

4.3 Nominal operating conditions

The nominal operating conditions of the compressor (unit) shall be as specified in Table 1.

5 Requirements

5.1 General requirements

The compressor (unit) shall comply with the requirements of this standard and be manufactured according to the drawings and technical documents approved by the prescribed procedures (or the agreement between the user and the manufacturer).

5.2 Safety requirements

The safety requirements of the compressor (unit) shall comply with the provisions of GB 9237.

5.3 Performance requirements
