Surface imperfections of bearing steel balls are what JB/T 10861-2008 addresses, a recommended standard of the Chinese machinery industry which provides both an atlas of such imperfections and the method for assessing them. It applies to bearing steel balls of the tolerance grades 3, 5, 10, 16, 20, 24 and 28 laid down in GB/T 308-2002, in sizes from 0.3 mm to 50 mm, whether the balls are inspected as a commodity or before they are assembled into bearings. Among the standards it quotes are GB/T 308-2002, GB/T 2828.1-2003 and GB/T 15757-2002. It replaces JB/T 53404.1-1994 and JB/T 53404.2-1994, and is classified J11 and 21.100.20.
