Scope
HG/T 5515-2019 is the English-translated version of 含海藻酸磷酸一铵、磷酸二铵.
HG/T 5515-2019 is the Chinese chemical industry standard for monoammonium and diammonium phosphate fertilizers made with seaweed liquid or seaweed powder added during production, which lowers how much of the phosphorus is locked up in soil. The brown granules or powder must reach 52.0% total nutrient for the monoammonium grade and 53.0% for the diammonium grade, carry at least 0.03% alginic acid, hold water below 3.0% and show a fixation variance rate of water-soluble phosphorus of 25% or more. Two normative appendices supply the unusual measurements: alginic acid by m-hydroxybiphenyl spectrophotometry at 520 nm, and the fixation variance rate by precipitating water-soluble phosphorus with calcium chloride. Batches run to 1000 t and bags hold 10 kg to 50 kg. Issued on 2 August 2019, it has applied since 1 January 2020.

Appendix A (Normative Appendix) Determination of Alginic Acid Content M-Hydroxybiphenyl Spectrophotometry
A.1 Method Abstract
Alginic acid is hydrolyzed into uronic acid under the reaction with sodium tetraborate-containing sulfuric acid solution, the uronic acid further reacts with m-hydroxybiphenyl to form a red derivative. Within a certain concentration range, an absorbance value of this derivative at a wavelength of 520 nm presents a linear positive correlation with the uronic acid content. Thus, the uronic acid content can be determined by spectrophotometry.
