Scope

GB/Z 18620.6-2025 is the English-translated version of 检验实施规范 第6部分:锥齿轮测量.

GB/Z 18620.6-2025, identical to ISO/TR 10064-6:2009, is a Chinese national guidance document on how to measure unassembled bevel gears, hypoid gears and gear pairs.

It ties the measuring methods to practical operation, covering manufacturing documents, process control, acceptance criteria and the measurement of pitch deviation, radial runout, tooth flank form, contact pattern, single-flank and double-flank composite deviations and tooth thickness, plus recommended datum surface tolerances.

Used with GB/T 11365-2019 and ISO 17485, it lets manufacturers and purchasers obtain results consistent with the accuracy grades of that system. Enclosed gearboxes, such as speed reducers, speed increasers and gear motors, are outside its scope.

It is Part 6 of the GB/Z 18620 inspection practice series. Issued on 3 December 2025, it has applied since 3 December 2025.

Foreword

This document is a report-type guidance technical document.

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents". Drafting.

This document is Part 6 of GB /Z 18620.GB /Z 18620 has the following parts published.

---Inspection Implementation Specification Part 1: Measurement of Cylindrical Gear Tooth Surface;

---Spiral Gear Inspection Implementation Specification Part 2: Inspection of Radial Composite Deviation, Radial Runout, Tooth Thickness and Backlash;

---Specifications for Inspection of Cylindrical Gears, Part 3: Inspection of Gear Blanks, Shaft Center Distance, and Axis Parallelism;

---Specifications for Inspection of Cylindrical Gears, Part 4: Inspection of Surface Structure and Tooth Contact Patterns;

---Inspection Implementation Specifications, Part 5: Evaluation of Gear Measuring Instruments;

---Inspection Implementation Specification Part 6: Bevel Gear Measurement.

This document is equivalent to ISO /T R10064-6.2009 "Inspection Practice Specifications - Part 6: Measurement of Bevel Gears", and the document type is changed from... ISO 's technical reports have been adapted into my country's national standardization guidance technical documents.

The following minimal editorial changes have been made to this document.

---A description of "bevel gears" has been added as a note within the scope;

---The order of the symbols in Table 1 has been adjusted according to Chinese usage, and the positions of the symbols when they were first used have been corrected.

Introduction

GB /Z 18620 "Test Specifications" is a supporting document for gear accuracy standards, providing measurement methods for gear accuracy and other related items. Laws and precautions.

GB /Z 18620, "Testing and Inspection Standards", is proposed to consist of six parts.

---Part 1: Measurement of Cylindrical Gear Tooth Surfaces. The purpose is to describe the inspection methods and requirements for the tooth surfaces on the same side of cylindrical gear teeth, in order to... Ensure that the quality and performance of the gears meet the prescribed technical standards.

---Part 2: Inspection of Radial Combined Deviation, Radial Runout, Tooth Thickness, and Backlash. The purpose is to describe the radial combined deviation of cylindrical gears.

Inspection methods for deviation, radial runout, tooth thickness, and backlash are crucial parameters for gear accuracy and performance.

---Part 3: Inspection of Gear Blank, Shaft Center Distance, and Axis Parallelism. The purpose is to describe the parallelism of the gear blank, shaft center distance, and axis.

The inspection method for the gear's runout is described, and recommended values are given to ensure that the quality and performance of the gear meet the predetermined technical requirements.

---Part 4: Inspection of Surface Structure and Tooth Contact Pattern. The purpose is to describe the surface structure and tooth contact pattern of cylindrical gears.

The methods for inspecting spots are important for evaluating the durability and performance stability of gears.

---Part 5: Evaluation of Gear Measuring Instruments. The purpose is to describe the principles and calibration of various gear measuring devices, as well as their uncertainties. Evaluation.

---Part 6: Measurement of bevel gears, equivalent to ISO /T R10064-6.2009. The purpose is to describe the specific precision measurement of bevel gears. Quantification method.

GB /Z 18620 "Test Specifications" provides detailed guidance and standards for the design, manufacture, and inspection of gears, ensuring the quality of gear production. Product quality and reliability.

One point to note is that there are many terms in the gear system, especially bevel gears. The same thing can have different meanings depending on the time, occasion, and context.

Translations or expressions may differ. For example, in GB/T 11365-2019 "Precision Measurement of Bevel Gears", the section "Comprehensive Measurement of Double-Sided Meshing" (C.1)... When evaluating accuracy, it is equivalent to "comprehensive measurement of two-sided tooth surfaces" (5.8.2) in this document, and the relevant measuring instrument is sometimes simply referred to as "double meshing instrument". Inspection Implementation Specification Part 6: Bevel Gear Measurement

1 Scope

This document describes the measurement methods for unassembled bevel gears, hypoid gears, and gear pairs, and specifies the requirements for practical operation.

Note: In the following sections of this document, bevel gears and hypoid gears will be referred to together as bevel gears.

Chapter 5 of GB/T 11365-2019 provides tolerances for bevel gears, used to calculate the maximum allowable value for a specified tolerance grade.

This document combines the measurement methods for bevel gears with practical operations (see Chapter 5), thus standardizing the testing process. Manufacturers and suppliers... When buyers perform measurements using this method, the accuracy and repeatability are consistent with the tolerance levels specified in ISO 17485.

The required and optional measurement methods are specified in Chapter 6 of GB/T 11365-2019.

This document applies to the measurement of bevel gear parts as defined in ISO 17485. It does not apply to the measurement of enclosed gearboxes. Enclosed gearboxes include... Gearboxes, speed increasers, geared motors, shaft-mounted reducers, high-speed gearboxes, and others manufactured to meet given power, speed, transmission ratio, or application requirements. Closed gearbox.

In practice, using accuracy grades to infer gear performance requires extensive experience, so do not apply this method to the accuracy measurements of unassembled bevel gears.

The value is directly used to determine the service performance of the bevel gear pair.

Tolerances for bevel gears exceeding the limits specified in ISO 17485 need to be determined based on specific application requirements and may require setting a small tolerance.

The tolerance value is calculated using the formula in ISO 17485.
