Scope
GB/T 9981-2025 is the English-translated version of 农村住宅卫生规范.
GB/T 9981-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering what makes a village house fit to live in — the choice of the site, the orientation and the room layout, the daylight, the sound insulation and the indoor air, the heating and ventilation, the water supply and the drainage, the toilet and the household waste, the courtyard, and the measured indoor quality figures that turn all of it from advice into something an inspector can check. It replaces GB/T 9981-2012, under the National Administration of Disease Control and Prevention. In force from 1 November 2025. Issued on 25 April 2025, it has been in force since 1 November 2025, replacing GB/T 9981-2012.

Foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1: Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 9981-2012 "Rural Housing Sanitation Code". Compared with GB/T 9981-2012, in addition to structural adjustments and compilation In addition to logical changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
— Added the terms and definitions of "rural residence" and "domestic sewage" (see 3.1 and 3.9), deleted the terms "sunshine spacing coefficient" and "living room The terms and definitions of "depth", "room depth coefficient", "average living area", "average living volume", "warm area" and "cold area" (see 3.4, 3.7, 3.8, 3.10, 3.11, 3.12 and 3.13 of the 2012 edition);
— Changed the sanitation requirements for rural residential construction land (see 4.1, 4.1 of the 2012 edition);
— Added sanitary requirements for residential orientation, room configuration, building space and indoor environment, and courtyard sanitation in residential building design (see 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.2.3 and 4.2.4);
— Added hygiene requirements for heating and ventilation facilities (see 4.3);
— Added sanitary requirements for water supply and drainage facilities (see 4.4);
— Added sanitation requirements for toilets and garbage collection and treatment facilities (see 4.5);
— Changed the sanitary quality indicators and testing methods for rural houses (see 4.6, 4.6 of the 2012 edition).

Rural residential hygiene standards
1 Scope
This document stipulates the land use, building design, heating and ventilation facilities, water supply and drainage facilities, toilets and garbage collection and disposal of rural residential buildings.
The sanitary requirements for facilities and sanitary quality of rural residences are described, and the corresponding verification methods are described.
This document is applicable to the planning, design, construction and hygienic evaluation of rural houses. Self-built rural houses shall be implemented as a reference.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Buildings used for residential use by residents of towns, townships and villages outside the urban (town) planning areas where the people's governments at or above the county level are located.

When building, renovating or expanding rural houses, the land for residential construction, residential building design, heating and ventilation, water supply and drainage facilities, toilets, etc.
