Scope
GB/T 8704.3-2009 is the English-translated version of 钒铁 硫含量的测定 红外线吸收法及燃烧中和滴定法.
GB/T 8704.3-2009 is the Chinese national method for the sulfur content of ferrovanadium, by infrared absorption and by combustion-neutralization titration, over a mass fraction of 0.005% to 0.120%.
In the infrared method the specimen is burnt in flowing oxygen in a high-frequency induction furnace and the sulfur dioxide produced goes to the measuring chamber of a sulfur infrared absorption analyser of 0.1 x 10(-6) sensitivity, the absorbed energy at a specific wavelength being proportional to the sulfur concentration.
The reagents and materials are those that keep the blank low: acetone, anhydrous magnesium perchlorate, soda asbestos, glass wool, tungsten and tin particles below 0.0002% sulfur, pure iron above 99.8% purity, oxygen above 99.95% purity and porcelain crucibles ignited above 1200 °C. Sampling follows GB/T 4010.
Issued on 15 July 2009, it replaces GB/T 8704.3-1997 and has applied since 1 April 2010.

Foreword
This Part replaces GB/T 8704.3-1997 "determination of sulfur content for chemical analysis of ferrovanadium The infrared absorption method and combustion - neutralization titration method." This portion of the GB/T 8704.3-1997 comparison, the main changes are.
--- The method of one of the sample weight 0.500g, 0.200g two tranches adjusted to a file 0.200g;
--- The method of one of the iron from the flux amount was adjusted to 0.50g 0.20g;
--- The method of one of the first, second gear allows for the consolidation difference sulfur content of 0.005% to 0.015%, 0.002% allowable difference;
--- The second method of determination by the scope of < 0.120% to 0.005% and 0.120%.

3 Method One. The infrared absorption method
3.1 Principle
The sample is heated in a high frequency induction furnace combustion oxygen flow generated by the oxygen contained sulfur dioxide infrared analyzer to the measuring chamber dioxide A sulfur absorbing specific wavelengths of infrared energy, which is proportional to the absorbed energy and the concentration of sulfur, based on the detection unit accepts the change in energy can be measured sulfur content.
3.2 Reagents and materials
3.2.1 acetone. sulfur content of the residue after evaporation is less than 0.0005%.
3.2.2 Magnesium perchlorate, anhydrous, granular.
3.2.3 Asbestos caustic soda, granular.
3.2.4 Glass wool.
3.2.5 tungsten particles. sulfur content of less than 0.0002%, particle size 0.8mm ~ 1.4mm.
3.2.6 tin particles. sulfur content of less than 0.0002%, particle size 0.4mm ~ 0.8mm. If necessary, apply acetone (3.2.1) clean the surface and in the room Temperature and dried.
3.2.7 pure iron. purity of greater than 99.8%, a sulfur content of less than 0.0002%, particle size 0.8mm ~ 1.6mm.
3.2.8 Oxygen. The purity of more than 99.95%, if other levels of oxygen to obtain a low and consistent blank, can also be used.
3.2.9 Power Source gas. nitrogen or compressed air, which contaminants (oil and water) content of less than 0.5%.
3.2.10 porcelain crucible. diameter × height, 23mm × 23mm or 25mm × 25mm, and above 1200 °C high temperature furnace 4h or by burning oxygen burning to blank the lowest value.
3.2.11 Crucible tongs.
3.3 Instruments and equipment
3.3.1 Sulphur infrared absorption analyzer (sensitivity of 0.1 x 10^-6), which means as shown in Figure 1.
