Scope
GB/T 8704.1-2009 is the English-translated version of 钒铁 碳含量的测定 红外线吸收法及气体容量法.
GB/T 8704.1-2009 is the Chinese national method for the carbon content of ferrovanadium, by infrared absorption over a mass fraction of 0.025% to 1.200% and by the gas volumetric route over 0.400% to 1.200%.
In the infrared method the specimen is burnt in a stream of oxygen in a high-frequency induction furnace and the carbon dioxide produced is passed to the measuring chamber of an infrared analyser, where the energy absorbed at a specific wavelength is proportional to the carbon concentration.
It fixes the consumables that control the blank: acetone, anhydrous magnesium perchlorate, soda asbestos, glass wool, tungsten and tin particles, pure iron above 99.8% purity, oxygen above 99.95% purity and porcelain crucibles ignited above 1200 °C. It quotes GB/T 223.69-2008 and GB/T 4010.
Issued on 8 July 2009, it replaces GB/T 8704.1-1997 and has applied since 1 April 2010.

Foreword
This Part replaces GB/T 8704.1-1997 "Determination of the amount of carbon for chemical analysis of ferrovanadium The infrared absorption method and the gas volumetric method." This portion of the GB/T 8704.1-1997 comparison, the main changes are.
--- The method of one of the sample weight is adjusted to 0.500g 0.200g;
--- The method of one of the iron from the flux amount was adjusted to 0.50g 0.20g;
--- The method of one of the first, second gear allows differential combined carbon content of 0.025% to 0.070% 0.006% allowable difference.
1 Scope
This section specifies the determination of the carbon content of vanadium iron method and gas volumetric method using infrared absorption.
This section applies to the determination of vanadium iron carbon content. Wherein the infrared absorption method for the determination range (mass fraction). 0.025% - 1.200%;
Measurement range (mass fraction) of the gas volumetric method. 0.400% ~ 1.200%.

3 Method One. The infrared absorption method
3.1 Principle
The sample is heated in a high frequency induction furnace combustion flow of oxygen, carbon dioxide generated by the oxygen contained in the measuring chamber to the infrared analyzer dioxide CFCs absorb infrared energy of a specific wavelength, which absorbed energy is proportional to the concentration of carbon, based on the energy receiving detector can measure changes in carbon content.
3.2 Reagents and materials
3.2.1 acetone. carbon content of the residue after evaporation of less than 0.0005%.
3.2.2 Magnesium perchlorate. anhydrous, granular.
3.2.3 Caustic soda asbestos. granular.
3.2.4 Glass wool.
3.2.5 tungsten particles. carbon less than 0.002%, particle size of 0.8mm ~ 1.4mm.
3.2.6 tin particles. carbon content less than 0.002%, particle size 0.4mm ~ 0.8mm. If necessary, apply acetone (3.2.1) clean the surface and in the room Temperature and dried.
3.2.7 pure iron. purity greater than 99.8%, carbon content less than 0.002%, particle size of 0.8mm ~ 1.6mm.
3.2.8 Oxygen. The purity of more than 99.95%, if other levels of oxygen to obtain a low and consistent blank, can also be used.
3.2.9 Power Source gas. nitrogen or compressed air, which contaminants (oil and water) content of less than 0.5%.
3.2.10 porcelain crucible. diameter × height, 23mm × 23mm or 25mm × 25mm, and above 1200 °C high temperature furnace 4h or by burning oxygen burning to blank the lowest value.
3.2.11 Crucible tongs.
3.3 Instruments and equipment
3.3.1 Dingtan infrared absorption instrument (sensitivity of 0.1 x 10^-6), which means as shown in Figure 1.
