Scope
GB/T 8269.1-2025 is the English-translated version of 有机酸质量要求 第1部分:柠檬酸.
GB/T 8269.1-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering citric acid made by fermentation from starch or sugar — the chemical identity and the relative molecular mass, the product classification, the sensory and physicochemical requirements including light transmittance, the identification and the moisture determination, the batch definition and the split between factory and type inspection, and the marking, packaging, transport and storage; food safety limits sit outside it, in the food safety standards. The 2006 citric acid standard becomes Part 1 of a series whose Part 2 is to cover industrial itaconic acid. Issued on 25 April 2025, it has been in force since 1 May 2026, replacing GB/T 8269-2006.

Introduction
With the rapid development of the organic acid industry, the types of organic acids have diversified, the product quality has been improved, and the product variety has been enriched.
The industry technology has made great progress and development. GB/T 8269 "Quality Requirements for Organic Acids" was formulated to regulate the product quality and testing of organic acids.
Standardization and standardization of methods are the basic work to regulate the industry order of organic acids and related products and promote industrial development.
GB/T 8269 “Quality requirements for organic acids” is intended to consist of two parts.
--Part 1: Citric Acid. The purpose is to improve the product quality of the citric acid industry.
--Part 2: Industrial itaconic acid. The purpose is to improve the product quality of the industrial itaconic acid industry.
