Scope
GB/T 7731.10-2021 is the English-translated version of 钨铁 碳含量的测定 红外线吸收法.
GB/T 7731.10-2021 is the part of the Chinese ferrotungsten analysis series that measures carbon content by infrared absorption.
The sample is burned in a stream of oxygen in a high-frequency induction furnace, and the carbon dioxide formed is carried to the measuring chamber of an infrared analyser, where the absorbed energy gives the carbon mass fraction.
The method covers carbon contents from 0.010% to 1.00%. It lists the reagents and materials, including acetone, tungsten and tin fluxes with a low carbon blank, oxygen, the power gas source and ceramic crucibles, and sets out the principle, sampling to GB/T 4010, the number of determinations and the acceptance of results.
Ferroalloy producers and testing laboratories use it. It replaces GB/T 7731.10-1988, was issued on 20 August 2021 and has applied since 1 March 2022.

4 Principle
The sample is heated and burned in the oxygen stream of the high-frequency induction furnace to generate carbon dioxide, which is carried by the oxygen to the measuring chamber of the infrared analyzer.
Carbon absorbs infrared energy at a specific wavelength, and its absorption energy is proportional to its concentration. The quality of carbon can be measured according to the change in the energy received by the detector. Fraction.
