Scope

GB/T 6384-2008 is the English-translated version of 船舶及海洋工程用金属材料在天然环境中的海水腐蚀试验方法.

GB/T 6384-2008 specifies the test conditions, devices, specimen ratio, specimen preparation, procedures and methods of evaluating results for the seawater corrosion testing of metallic materials for ships and offshore structures in the natural environment.

Clause 1 states that it applies to full immersion, tidal and splash zone seawater corrosion tests carried out under natural conditions in order to assess the corrosion resistance of such materials.

Clause 3 governs the test conditions, beginning with the site: unless corrosion caused by pollution is what is being determined, the site is to lie in natural seawater typical of the environment in which the material will be used and the water is to be clean and unpolluted, free of large shock waves and with a natural tidal flow normally not exceeding 1 m/s, with a clean atmospheric site where tidal or splash testing is involved and with the site and its safety precautions clearly marked.

The same clause fixes specimen placement: in a fixed immersion test the upper end of the specimen sits 0.2 m to 2 m below the lowest point, in a floating immersion test not less than 0.2 m below the water surface, and in either case the lower end stays at least 0.8 m above the seabed; tidal specimens are placed within 0.3 m of the average tidal range, and splash specimens in the height band of most severe corrosion, which is identified beforehand by exposing carbon steel coupons at different heights for not less than one year.

Appendix A of the standard is normative.

Its normative references are GB/T 7998 on intergranular corrosion of aluminium alloys, GB/T 10127 on the ferric chloride crevice corrosion test for stainless steel, GB/T 15748 on galvanic corrosion testing of marine metallic materials, GB/T 15970.2-2000 on bent beam stress corrosion specimens, GB/T 16545 on the removal of corrosion products from test specimens and GB/T 18590-2001 on the evaluation of pitting corrosion.

The foreword records that the revision added normative references and the specimen ratio, introduced a method for determining the hanging height in the splash zone, modified the test duration and start time and the weighing accuracy for carbon and low alloy steel specimens, and cancelled the former appendix on chemical removal of corrosion products; the standard was proposed by China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation and drafted by one of its research institutes.

It replaces GB/T 6384-1986, was issued on August 4, 2008 and has applied since February 1, 2009.

Foreword

This standard replaces GB/T 6384-1986 "Shipping and Marine Engineering Test methods for seawater corrosion of metallic materials in the natural environment." This standard compared with GB/T 6384-1986, mainly for the following changes.

--- Added "normative references";

--- Increasing the ratio of the sample;

--- Increase the splash zone hanging like height determination method;

--- Modify the test time and test start time;

--- Weighing Accuracy modified carbon and low alloy steel samples and the like;

--- Cancel A "chemical corrosion product removal method" appendix of the original standard. Appendix A of this standard is a normative appendix. The standard proposed by China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation.

1 Scope

This standard specifies the offshore and marine metallic material in natural environment of marine corrosion test conditions, means comparison sample test Sample preparation, procedures, and methods of evaluation of results.

This standard applies to ships and marine engineering materials with metal immersion, tidal and splash seawater corrosion test under natural conditions, assessment material Material corrosion resistance.

2 Normative references

The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this standard and become the standard terms. For dated references, subsequent Amendments (not including errata content) or revisions do not apply to this standard, however, encourage the parties to the agreement are based on research Whether the latest versions of these documents. For undated reference documents, the latest versions apply to this standard.

3 Test conditions

3.1 Test Location

3.1.1 unless it is to determine the corrosion caused by the pollution, the test site should be selected in a typical natural seawater material to be tested may be used in ring Environment, water should be clean, non-polluting.

3.1.2 Test site without a large shock waves, caused by natural tidal flow, typically at a flow rate of 1m/s or less, to meet simultaneously or separately Full immersion, tidal and splash seawater corrosion test under natural conditions.

3.1.3 the need for tidal or splash corrosion tests, atmospheric test sites should be clean, non-polluting.

3.1.4 Test site and safety precautions should be clearly marked.

3.2 Specimen placement

3.2.1 Immersion

Fixed immersion corrosion test, the sample is generally the upper end is located at the lowest point position 0.2m ~ 2m; the floating immersion corrosion test, the samples End at a distance below the surface and the water surface is not less than 0.2m. When the test in two ways, the lower end of the sample from the seabed is not less than 0.8m.

Note: The lowest point is the lowest place in the front 10a.

3.2.2 Tidal range

The average tidal range specimen placed in the tide of ± 0.3m.

3.2.3 Splash

Splash test sample should be placed in the test waters hung the most serious corrosion height range. Carbon steel for the test material, by a period of not less than 1a Preparation of different heights coupon exposure tests, corrosion identify specific locations and specific facilities on the most serious height range.

Note: The average is the average of the tide before 10a.
